Pipe Tolerances

A description of all the tolerances codes

First we explain why we use this.

Manufacturing processes always have some variability. We include this by taking into account a certain tolerance, mostly for the wall thickness as this is a critical dimension.

In this application, we mostly use tolerance for calculating minimum wallthicknesses from nominal wall thicknesses. but different material codes give different tolerances.

For asme piping often the tolerance is 12.5% of the wall thickness for general purpose piping like A106 or A312.

For plate often the tolerance is 1/100 of an inch, which comes to 0.254mm. so for piping made from plates
